Financial platforms built using blockchain technology have become one of the fastest growing areas of FinTech. Amidst the media attention, it might seem difficult to identify a good strategy for leveraging the technology. After all the technology is not a panacea and performs well in certain settings, and is unsuitable in others. This workshop enables participants to understand what makes good blockchain technology use-cases and platforms for enterprise experimentation.

As a prerequisite, each participant is expected to contribute a business improvement proposal for analysis. Participants then collectively evaluate all contributed proposals for good fit with blockchain technology. This exercise could (but not necessarily will) result in the identification of 2 or 3 technology applications that would provide a healthy ratio of rewards to costs when implemented. Instructors shall provide guidance on how to take these identified cases forward technologically.

The workshop kicks off with a short, but solid, description of the technology. Then, we explore some good blockchain use cases and what makes the cases work well. Finally, we detail our methodology of use case identification and dedicate the second half of the day towards executing on our method. At the end of the workshop, participants can minimally expect to have worked through their own use cases and grasped the essential strengths and weaknesses of blockchain technology.

Goal:

This workshop shall introduce the basics of blockchain technology, walk participants through enterprise use cases of the technology, present a detailed analysis of factors that make good blockchain use cases; and finally have participants evaluate their own use-case ideas through a cost-benefit analysis. Post workshop, participants shall be able to make sound decisions on investments pertaining to blockchain technology.

Target Audience:

Enterprise managers, executives, business analysts, software developers and other professionals seeking a general overview of blockchain technology, it's use cases and a critical analysis of their own use-case ideas.

Prerequisites:

Some 'back of the envelope' business improvement proposals spanning any part of the enterprise workflow.

Infrastructure Needed:

Participants are expected to have on-site a mobile phone and Wifi access.
